(this review is excluding online multiplayer, I hadn't played online multiplayer at the time of this review, but now I have)
Does this game have more positive elements than it does negative ones? Yes. Does this game have room for improvement? Of course. The question is, are the positive elements good enough to make the negative elements not matter as much? Let's find out. In this review I have reviewed each game mode available (except for online multiplayer) individually and then made a final verdict.
Campaign: The campaign mode in Modern Warfare 2 is full of stealth, full head-on attacks, betrayals, enjoyment, and many suprises. The storyline can get confusing at times, but the average person will understand most of it. The storyline is very well made and will always keep you standing on your toes, wondering what other twists are in store for you. As for all game modes of MW2, you will find yourself using a wide variety of weapons, from desert eagles to RPGs to predator missiles. A lot of times you have a choice in what weapon to use for the level (there might be a room, or sheet, full of weapons to choose from). You can also switch your gun with one of your dead victim's weapons and use that. Sometimes you have to use certain weapons for certain things. For example: an RPG for a helicopter, or a riot shield on a certain level. The one bad thing about MW2's campaign that sticks out for me is how short it is. While the campaign is very enjoyable, it doesn't last for long. And that is something you must consider if you are thinking about buying this for campaign alone. I also thought the museum you unlock after you beat the game was a nice touch.
Special Ops: The special ops mode in Modern Warfare 2 is where you do many different missions, either solo or co-op with a friend. There is missions under 5 different "leagues" almost: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo; Echo being the hardest missions and Alpha being the easiest. Then, each individual mission can be played on three different difficulties: Regular, Hardened, or Veteran. Regular may be called something else, I'm not sure at the moment. Anyway, each of the difficulties is a star for that mission. If you manage to beat a mission on all three difficulties, you will get three stars, and so on. You start off with only Alpha unlocked, but once you get enough stars from that "league", you will unlock Bravo, then both of those "leagues"' stars can contribute to unlocking Charlie, and so on. Most of the Spec Ops can be very enjoyable, but I only find them enjoyable with co-op because it will then involve teamwork and that brings a lot of fun. I find the special ops to be very boring, however, when played alone. Maybe that's just me, I don't know. But, when you have someone playing next to you, it's definitely a blast.
Offline Multiplayer: Me and my brother have a lot of fun with this, even if it is just two people. Up to four people can play at a time on offline multiplayer, but I've only played in a game with one other person, my brother. We have fun just ranking up and watching each other die over and over again, and I enjoy watching the killcam, to see how I reached my death. In mutiplayer, there is also a sort of reward you can drop down for yourself after you get a certain amount of kills in a row. The bad news is, your opponents are able to steal it, and use it against you if they are able to get to it first. But, I did find that feature to be pretty cool. The rest of multiplayer is pretty self explanatory, mostly like any other FPS shooter's multiplayer, except in some ways better.
The Verdict: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a load of fun to experiment and play with, but your experience is definitely worse if you have no one else to play with. But, as long as you have a buddy or family member with you willing to play at most times, I think it's safe to say you will have a game to be ingulfed in for quite a while. It is hard for this game to ever get old.
Is it worth to buy? Of course
