Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 - November 21, 2010
Let me get this out of the way first. I only just arrived home from the movie theater a few hours ago, so all of these ideas will be fresh on my mind. Keep in mind that I have seen every Potter film to date so these opinions come from who may be considered a veteran of the series.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 premiered in theaters on Saturday, November 21st, 2010 and was one of the most anticipated titles of the season.
Will this year's latest Potter exceed expectations or disappoint loyal fans of the series? Well... find out!
I've got to say, I really didn't know what the point of having multiple parts of this movie was. In fact, I didn't even realize that this particular film was specified as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 until I actually went into the theater. But, after finishing watching the movie I can completely understand the need for two parts.
Deathly Hallows came to be about 2 hours and 30 minutes long, give or take credits, previews, and advertisements. The first thirty minutes started off surprisingly slow, but it is safe to say that the movie more than picks up after that mark. The tone for the movie is immediately set even in the beginning. I don't want to spoil anything, but so far this seems to be the most different Potter film yet. Whether that is a good or bad thing is up to you, but that same classic Potter feel is still there. Hardcore fans of the series will not be disappointed either because humorous, dramatic, and cinematic scenes along with the unique spells and characters we've all come to know and love blend together to make one of the most exciting Harry Potter movies yet.
The storyline is more engaging than ever and will have you dying to see Part 2. Though, like I said, I'm not going to spoil any big things in the plot. Basically, Voldemort is after Harry Potter and Co. so they must destroy his remaining Horcruxes while learning the history of the Deathly Hallows along the way (which is a very interesting story that I will let you learn for yourself). You learn even more about your main characters as their relationships' bonds grow even closer.
The Good:
The storyline is as good as ever (and the little Deathly Hallows tale is a nice feature).
A lot of content, especially for something that is only half of the final product.
You get to know the characters even more.
The Bad:
Leaves a bad first impression if you only see the very beginning.
Can go from very action-filled to very dull in an instant.
... Voldemort.
The Sex Appeal:
Hermione. Yeah.
In conclusion, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is a film every Harry Potter fan should experience. It's engaging characters, story, and over all Potter tone make up one of the best Potters and of the best movies this year. The whole package was an enthralling experience that left me wanting more. I can't wait until Part II is release for the conclusion... of the conclusion. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 rightfully earns a rating of...
8.5/10
